First snow and Freeze in New Mexico

Many parts of Eastern New Mexico saw their first snow and their first freeze this past week. This early blast of winter brought huge changes to the state but they didn't stick around for long. Many folks enjoyed the sight of snow, with some classes at ENMU even canceling for students to enjoy the rare sight of the white stuff. Temperatures struggled to go above the 40's. What I question right now is that the NWS had an official high yesterday of 57 degrees. I do not agree with that at all. All CWOP sites in the area didn't make it out of the 40's and with the cloud cover all day there wasn't a chance to "heat up" the surface very much. Snow will be the rare thing this winter as La Nina has made a comeback and we are expecting dry conditions once again as well has warmer than normal temps this winter, but we will still have our occasional winter blasts.
